Laser
The CYC Laser fleet supports
those sailing with the
Standard, Radial and 4.7
rigs. We hold an annual
open meeting in April
for all three rigs which
is part of the Laser South
Coast Grand Prix Series.
This year the Club trophy
for class racing in Lasers
- the Harper Trophy -
will be held in May.
Laser 2000
The fleet at CYC varies
in size between twenty-five
and thirty boats over
the year. First launched
in 1998, Laser has produced
more than two thousand
boats by 2007. The Laser
2000 is popular with families
as an entry-level two
person dinghy. Simple
to rig and maintain, the
asymmetric spinnaker takes
the hassle out of launching
and recovering, while
providing exhilarating
sailing.
Ideal for family cruising
the whole of beautiful
Chichester Harbour from
the Club. If the boat
is kept in the dinghy
park, you can be ready
to sail within fifteen
minutes of arriving. Some
dedicated owners participate
in the Club racing programme,
while instruction in rig
tuning and race training
is often arranged at the
Club.
The Laser 2000 Owners
Association organise a
series of events around
the country, with a two
day meeting at CYC in
on 19/20 July in 2009.
The Club have an active
social programme over
the year.

Optimist
There are many opportunities
for sailing Optimists at
CYC from the informal after
school sailing to our Optimist
Open which is a regular
annual event on the IOCA
calendar. New Oppie sailors
are always welcome, starting
on one of our beginners/improvers
courses before progressing
to the monthly Optimist
Sailing days. Up to twenty
enthusiastic Optimist sailors
attend these sailing days,
during which the children
receive race coaching and
learn to race competitively.
The less experienced children
may sail with an RYA instructor
to build on their newly
acquired sailing skills.
During Family and Junior
Race week the Optimists
race separately from the
main fleet receiving coaching
from an experienced Club
member. |

Solo
The CYC Solo fleet are an
active, friendly bunch with
regular turn outs of 5-8
boats during 2004 providing
close, competitive and above
all, good fun racing. The
2004 Solo open meeting was
the 2nd largest in the Solo
class calendar with 48 boats
turning out. The Solo class
has a very active section
in the south of England,
with over a dozen local
(within 1-2hrs drive) open
meetings to test your skills.
The Solo has a strong legacy
at CYC with Jack Holt's
involvement in the early
days of the Club and the
fleet welcome new members
or curious enquiries from
those thinking about changing
to Solo sailing. Please
see the award winning website
- www.solosailing.org.uk

Mirror
There are around 30 Mirror
Dinghies in the CYC fleet
and these are sailed by
people of all ages and
abilities, from beginners
to those competing at
championship level. At
CYC many families introduce
their children and grandchildren
to sailing in the Mirror,
where gentler breezes,
less strong tides and
some interesting scenery
provide some good cruising.
Training sessions are
held at the Club during
the season to help people
get the best out of their
boat, whether racing or
cruising. These are organised
by CYC Mirror sailors
and the Class Association.
There is a full programme
of racing at the Club
throughout the year. Many
parent / child crews race
together in the Mirror
and the number of all
junior crews is increasing.
The Club holds an annual
open meeting for the Mirror
Class and this generally
attracts 25 - 30 boats
from across Southern England.
There is a Mirror class
start at the annual CYC
regatta that is always
well attended. In August,
CYC Family and Junior
Week attracts many Mirror
crews of all abilities
for a week of racing and
fun events. During the
winter the CYC Snowflake
Series provides the focus
for Mirror racing in Southern
England, with 20 boats
competing as a separate
fleet in the 2004 - 2005
series. |

Topper Fleet
CYC has an active fleet
of 10 to 15 Toppers that
have taken part in Club
racing and training events
during 2007. There’s
a growing interest in
the fleet particularly
with teenagers moving
on from Optimists. In
addition to the regular
Club racing program there’s
always a strong turnout
for the race training
sessions and novice days
that are organised during
the year. A highlight
is Family & Junior
Week in August, where
Topper sailors are particularly
well represented and always
have a lot of fun.
CYC currently owns 5
Club Toppers that are
available for hire from
the CYC office, this is
popular with new members
who may not have decided
on which class of dinghy
to buy. It certainly increases
the options for getting
family members of all
ages on the water to take
part in Club racing, training
events or cruising.
CYC also runs an annual
Topper Open meeting in
October. In recent years
this has formed part of
the Southern Area Travellers
series attracting fleets
of 50+ for some very competitive
racing. We also host an
open training day organised
by the Topper Class Association
on the day prior to the
Topper Open, providing
valuable race training
from external coaches.
There’s an email distribution
list (CYC Toppers) enabling
helms to keep up to date
with news, planned events
and race reports. For more
information about Topper
sailing at CYC contact Jonathan
Morley, Topper class captain.
