Cruising in Company: Rock the Boat
Bembridge Cruise 22nd and 23rd June
Led by Kevin and Annie Brown
The cruise was held to coincide with the Bembridge 60/70s Music Festival. We were very pleased that the weather changed to be fine just in time for the weekend after such a long and persistent period of low pressure. We were 10 boats and 25 people, rafted in close company on the main pontoon.
On the Saturday the tide was late so most folks had a leisurely and gentle sail/motor across to Bembridge. We all arrived in time for the evening event. There were two Island bands who treated us to a feast of classics from the 1960s and 70s throughout the evening. There was a good Barbecue and for those with room for dessert, local ice-cream with toppings and fresh fruit. There was a good bar served out of a Horse Box! Plenty to eat and drink.
As there was no time for a pontoon party on the Saturday, we gathered for some home-made cakes on the Sunday morning. This turned out to be a great time to have a chat, meet new friends and catch up. After that it seemed like there was little time left before there was sufficient height of tide to head back to our home ports. A couple of people managed to go aground on the rising tide but no drama!
We had a number of people on the cruise that we had not met before and these cruises in company are a great way to get to know folks. There is plenty of time for a leisurely chat over a drink or two and, in our case, a cake or two!
This was the first cruise that we had led, and we enjoyed the experience. Who knows, maybe we will do one next year!
