CYC Laser Open 2020 Race Report

Radial and 4.7 Fleets

by Lottie Cheeseman

The impending storm Alex was a no show wind wise for the laser open this year, making for very light winds and a slow start.

The open was run in three fleets standard, radial and 4.7 with a healthy number of visitors filling the fleets.

Race one made for a slow start with very light winds so wasshortened. However, after some drifting about waiting for more wind and course changes the wind picked up for races 2&3.

Although there were still some lulls the majority of the races were with good winds.

The radial fleet was led by Findlay Bignold- Kyles (RLym YC) winning 2 out of the three races and therefore taking 1stplace. 2nd went to Martin Jones (HISC) and 3rd to Xavier Dunn (Warsash SC)

In the 4.7 fleet competition was close for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, however, Emily shears (Reading SC) managed to take 1stplace, closely followed by Oscar Pitman (ESC) in 2nd and Benjamin Mehta (Wier Wood SC) in 3rd.

After racing competitors went to the socially distanced prize giving to collect their prizes and managed to dodge the oncoming foul weather that was lingering around throughout the day.
