CYC REGATTA
CYC hosted another extremely successful rowing regatta last Saturday for local clubs. This was our third rowing regatta and we are going from strength to strength. The weather was kind, again, the club house was full, with well over 100 people registered for the event.
This was the first point scoring regatta for the new league set up in the 3 Harbours. The 7 boats raced in 3 point scoring categories, Men’s, Women’s and Mixed with an additional ladies race. Setting off in pairs, 2 minutes apart, there was some close and competitive racing, with the approximately 2nm course being mostly visible from the clubhouse. The catering was excellent and appreciated by all the clubs, with breakfast and a wide selection of hot food available throughout the day.
The prizes were presented by the inspirational Alex Lewis. He was first introduced to the club as he rowed 350 miles from Falmouth to Dover, then hand cycled 649 miles back to Cornwall, an amazing feat which he completed as a quadruple amputee. He enjoyed the rowing, and the rowing community, so much that he has several even more extreme rows planned! All classes were closely fought and CYC did very well overall, with the Ladies coming a close 2nd by only 17 seconds! It was a great day for CYC and the local rowing community. If you would like to find out more about rowing and/or coxing at CYC please contact the office.
