Yachts: CYC ‘Around the Cans’ Race to Cowes & Pursuit Race Home

Spired on by the success of the 2023 ‘Round the Cans’ Race and a weather inflicted diversion to the Folly earlier in the year we felt it only fitting to combine these two to create the grand finale of the season.

We will have a slightly more challenging course on the way to Cowes, followed by a pontoon party on the River pontoon, dinner in the Folly with hopefully some dancing on the tables to round the evening off. Followed by the Pursuit Race home on Sunday.

The Pursuit race is unusual as instead of everyone starting at the same time, the race is run in reverse with each boat have its own start time. The idea is that we should all finish at about the same time. This obviously relies heavily on boats sailing to their handicaps, and the rather dodgy maths of the Racing Secretary, however nothing encourages you to tweak your sails more than the sight of a boat fast approaching your stern. It has also been known for some boats to arm themselves with buckets of water to dissuade any wannabe overtakers.
