Fishbourne Channel and Salterns Way Ramble
This 5 mile walk will be along the side of Chichester Harbour towards Fishbourne, and back along the Salterns bridleway.
We will meet in the CYC car park at 10.00. The walk is mostly on footpaths, bridleways and farm roads, with a short stretch on the pavement, and a short walk along a road. It will be near low tide, so there will be plenty of wading birds to be seen, so bring your bird books and binoculars.
There are display boards on route giving the history of Dell Quay and Apuldram Airdrome. We will also pass many of the locations featured in Kate Mosse’s novel, The Taxidermist’s Daughter. We will take a coffee stop at the top end of the harbour before turning down Salterns Way. Lunch will be served at the Club, which can be pre-ordered to avoid queuing and waiting. The menu selection will be published in Over the Yardarm and On Board.
The walk is all on the flat and generally on a good surface, but depending on the weather conditions, it may be a little muddy in places alongside the harbour, so wear suitable footwear and bring walking poles if you want to steady yourselves.
