Yachts: Cross Channel Plate : Race/Cruise to Poole
It has been clear for some time that a Channel Crossing was not going to be possible this year. However, James Connell & I soon agreed that a “CROSS CHANNEL RACE/CRUISE TO POOLE” was a feasibility for Friday the 28th May – so that is what we have arranged! James will issue more formal Cruise notes nearer the time, but here are the basic details:
- The START will be Chi Buoy at 11.00 BST on the Friday, but flexible start times are permitted (any time that morning may be difficult for Chi Marina folk & impossible for Birdham – who will need to leave the afternoon before & pick up a buoy for the night).
- The course will be, as James described it – keep the IOW on the right & stop when you get to the expensive houses!
- The finish will actually be the “Poole Bar No1” green buoy at the entrance to the Swash Channel
I have provisionally booked 2 nights for the rally at Poole Town Quay Yacht Haven. Two reasons for that: I expect to be tired after a long day sailing; & for those who would prefer, we will wait for you if you decide to sail the Solent on Friday & across to Poole on Saturday (but if you choose this route, you will have to make your own arrangements for Friday night). Then, on Sunday 30th May – the “RCs Cruise towards the West” will begin – with a day sailing to Portland. I have also provisionally booked the rally into Portland for that night (but it is the only night they can confirm space).
More details will be provided at the briefing in the evening of Wednesday 26th May, which will allow any boats who need to get out of their marina on Thursday. This will also be an opportunity to ask questions and allay any concerns
