New to Rowing

The rowing committee want to grow the rowing group at CYC and are always looking for new members to join us, from within the club as well as encourage non-members to try rowing, hoping they may join. Social rows are a great way to be introduced to rowing. If you are new to rowing, book onto a social row and let the cox know you are a novice ; they will be happy to provide some basic training for you.

Social Rows

Tend to be short rows to Furzefield Creek, Bosham, Dell Quay and Itchenor, or just rowing around the harbour. Longer, more energetic rows are organised to Thorney Channel, Emsworth (two crews for this row) and to East Head. These do require enhanced levels of technique and fitness.

Adventure Rows

New to CYC Rowing this year, we intend to organise some adventure social rowing to explore other parts of the South of England, this could include parts of the Thames River, the Solent, Portsmouth Harbour, Beaulieu River, the Arun and Ouse to name a few.

Performance & Endurance Rows

For those that want to push the boundaries in spring rowing and endurance, these rows incorporate some structured training and are good preparation for rowing competitions.

Competitions

In October last year, we hosted our Challenge Regatta; 7 boats from the harbour clubs attended and it was deemed a great success. Other regattas we attend have included the Hamble River Raid, Cockleshell, Great River Race (Thames), Round the Island, Head of the Ouse to name a few. These events do require a more serious commitment from crews and do require a level of fitness and good rowing technique.

Other Events

There are regatta events in the Bristol / Clevedon area that we may be participating this year.

Celtic Longboat League

We are now part of the largest concentration of Celtic Long Boats outside Wales, there are now 8 boats in the harbour and more on the Thames and in Bristol. 2024/25 is the first year we have run the league, we have three more events this year. We will publish events in Easy Teams.

Boats Update

We are about to take delivery of a coastal double scull rowing boat, due to arrive in January. Helen Boarer has kindly volunteered to be Captain of sliding seat rowing at CYC. This boat has been loaned to CYC for 12 months.

Participation

If you have any thoughts and or ideas to enhance your rowing experience and participation at CYC, we would love your feedback.

Coxswains

If you do not want to row, but are interested in getting onto the water, we would love you to volunteer as a cox as we are always short of them. The rowing group will provide training to level 1 accreditation. The cox always goes free!

We look forward to seeing you on the water soon.
