Chichester Yacht Club is a RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Training Centre with a comprehensive training programme throughout the year.
Training is managed by Drew, our full-time Sailing Manager who has a keen interest in getting people involved in sailing and other watersports. Drew manages a team of RYA qualified instructors and coaches and together they will teach you the skills you need to enjoy being on the water.

As a Recognised RYA Training Centre, CYC provides a range of formal training courses leading to internationally recognised RYA qualifications. All our training is run from the Club in the beautiful surroundings of Chichester Harbour.
Our RYA Dinghy Courses are a great way for beginners to learn the basics of sailing and progress to being a self-sufficient sailor, and as an RYA Onboard Club we promote the Onboard Mission and Values
As an RYA training centre, CYC offers the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course, as well as a variety of other training options to improve your boat handling skills.
A comprehensive programme of Club training is offered for both junior and adult members. These sessions provide training for any skill or confidence level. Coaching is either in group sessions, mini courses, camps or by private tuition.
Club training will develop the confidence to enjoy sailing in the harbour, either alone or in company. For those interested in competition, Race Coaching and Race Development sessions are available, from basic race skills to advanced techniques. These are not formal courses, and activities are tailored to meet the needs of the group.
For juniors there are Fun on the Water sessions aimed at getting out on the water, and Fun Start to race sessions for those who want to move in to racing. Some of our juniors have gone on to join RYA Squad training or the Keelboat Academy, aimed at developing the most talented young sailors.
As an RYA OnBoard Club, CYC follows and promotes the OnBoard Mission and Values, and provides a clear pathway for juniors to get involved in sailing.
Run by the RYA, OnBoard is a hugely successful grass roots programme which seeks to make sailing and windsurfing easier to access for 8-18 year olds. Launched in 2005, the programme has helped to introduce over 900,000 people across the country to sailing and windsurfing.
Talks, lectures, peer-to-peer advice sessions are scheduled or available on a variety of subjects throughout the year: boat electrics, plumbing, communications, radio and charts. Our Yacht and Motor sections benefit from a wealth of experienced members who are always happy to provide informal coaching.
The club offers a range of informal talks and lectures on all aspects of boating. In addition the club has links to local companies that can provide formal courses.
The Club has a range of single and double handed sailing dinghies, suitable for adults and children, from beginners to those starting to race. Dinghies are provided for all water based RYA dinghy courses and can also be hired by Club members for coaching sessions, racing and casual sailing.
Canoes, kayaks and SUPs
Through an agreement with Chichester Canoe Club (CCC), our members can also be trained in canoes, kayaks and SUPs and experience the harbour in a new and exciting way. CCC’s experienced coaches run regular sessions from the Club. No canoe? No problem, just contact CCC and they will provide one for you.
Experienced sailors can qualify as Dinghy Instructors and Race Coaches, and many remain at the club to teach others.
