Before Your Session

To help you get off to a great start, here are a few handy tips so you can arrive feeling prepared and ready to get out on the water.

Clothing
As this is a tidal stretch of water, the sea tends to stay on the chilly side all year round—so a wetsuit or your own watersports gear is definitely recommended (we're not able to provide these just yet).

Its also worth bringing a change of clothes, or wearing things that wont hold too much water. A windproof layer—like a spray top, cagoule, or windcheater—can make a big difference in keeping you comfortable while you're out there.

Buoyancy Aids
We've got buoyancy aids covered and will provide these for all participants. If you'd prefer to bring your own, that's absolutely fine too—just make sure it meets the correct safety standard and provides at least 50N of buoyancy.

Medication
If you need any medication during your session, just let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly. Everything will be handled discreetly.

Your instructor can carry it for you, or we can provide a dry bag so you can keep it close at hand—its completely up to what works best for you. We're also happy to make adjustments to support you on the water wherever we can.

Accessories
A bit of common sense goes a long way here—dress for the weather! The sun can feel stronger on the water, so water-resistant sun cream, a hat, and sunglasses are all good ideas.

We've got hot showers ready for you afterwards, so you might want to bring a towel, toiletries, and a fresh set of clothes. If its on the colder side, think extra layers, a beanie, and gloves (water-resistant work gloves are surprisingly great).

Food and Drink
There are options at the club for meals and snacks, so you wont go hungry. If your session overlaps with a mealtime, your instructor will factor in a break. That said, bringing your own food is a good shout so we can maximise your time on the water.

Timings
Before heading down, please double-check your session times on the event listing on our website.

If you're joining us for a multi-day course, timings might vary slightly from day to day. We do our best to keep things consistent, but we have to work around the tides—after all, there's not much sailing to be done without water!

Paperwork on the Day
At the start of your session, you'll be asked to fill in a booking form with a medical declaration and emergency contact details. Please take a moment to complete this carefully and accurately.

If you'd like to get ahead of the game, you can request the form in advance by emailing training@cyc.co.uk and bring it with you already filled in.

If you've got any questions before your session, just drop us a line at training@cyc.co.uk or give us a call on 01243 512 918—we're always happy to help.

We looking forward to seeing you on the water!
