Stoughton loop to Bow Hill
Stoughton loop to Bow Hill and return
Max number of Diners is limited to 36.
Max number of walkers is 50.
This 6 ml (approx) walk in the Downs will set off from the Hare & Hounds at Stoughton. There is limited car parking at the pub but with due thought to residents there should be plenty of space in the road the pub is on.
The landlord will open the pub at 09:30 for us to place our orders for lunch, payment can be made later. The walk is mostly on wide bridleways, giving ample opportunity to chat, that is if the ascent to Bow Hill leaves the walker with breath to spare! The walk is though mix of a mix of open land and woods. There are 2 ascents, the first being fairly modest shortly after the start as we walk up the western side of the valley before crossing the valley to make the longer climb up to Bow Hill. The total ascent of the walk is nearly 1,000 ft, but happily there aren’t any stiles to slow us up.
We will take coffee on the top, hopefully with fine views out towards the coast from SE through to SW. There are some ancient burial mounds on the summit known as the Devils Humps which some may wish to explore before we begin our descent to Stoughton. Whilst the bridleway should not get too muddy in rain, walking poles are advised for those that use them as the path is sometimes steep and stony.
