Yachts

Members of the Yacht Section enjoy what must be one of the most comprehensive and active programmes, both on and off the water, of any Yacht Club in the country.

With around 300 boats most of these are cruising yachts in the 8m-13m length range berthed in Chichester Harbour or one of the local marinas. Members enjoy Cruising in company around the Solent, along the South Coast of England and across the Channel.

The Section is made up of members with a great range of experience and ability – from Ocean ventures to complete novices wishing to “learn the ropes” and share in the enjoyment we all experience when on the water.  The Yacht Section meets every second Friday evening of the month for an informal get together to swap stories and catch up with friends.

Cruising in Company

The highly popular Cruising in Company programme offers the chance for yacht owners to sail and meet others at pre-booked destinations, either locally on the South Coast or across the Channel. The packed programme runs from April to October and includes weekend and mid-week cruises together with longer excursions outside the Solent.

Cruising in Company is a very enjoyable, relaxed and sociable activity with opportunities for meeting others, making new friends and sharing the wealth of knowledge of sailing that exists within the Club. It has the added bonus of going places you might not think of, with assistance and advice never far away.

Yacht Racing

For those Yacht members with a competitive spirit we organise an informal Fun Race Series each season. We have adopted the RYA National Handicap for Cruisers (NHC) to calculate handicaps. The racing is designed for lightly-crewed cruising yachts and enables them to enjoy a degree of competitive sailing around simple courses with the prospect of a sociable evening at the end of the day.
