CYC Ramblers
John and Jane Gosnell will lead a walk from The Red Lion, the walk is 6.6 miles long and involves 900 feet of ascent over first Horndean then Chalton Down, so lunch will definitely be earnt!
We will leave The Red Lion, Chalton at 10am. The pub will open at 09:30 to take our lunch orders and allow us to use their toilets before we leave. They have a large car park behind the pub.
For those who haven’t been there it is a great pub in a beautiful location. See their website if you wish to check out the pub and its menu.
A lot of the walk is over broad paths which, given a clear day, give super views out to all points of the compass.
The first climb after leaving Chalton is the steep one on a good grassy path which leads to the appropriately named Windmill hill at 194m.
A gentle descent through Blendworth before turning north to climb Chalton Down at 145m, a gentler ascent but great views nevertheless. An easy descent takes us back to Chalton via its Saxon church, a great finish.
NOTE Please let John and Jane know if you wish to join us and include the numbers in your party who wish to eat. We have to book the appropriate dining space for us.
We hope you will join us.
