Yachts: Peter Buttery Salver – Cowes and Back Race/Cruise
The Peter Buttery Trophy is the opening event of the CYC fun race calendar and, as usual, it will be to Cowes on Saturday and return on Sunday. Our overnight berthing will be in Cowes Yacht Haven with dinner ashore in a local pub for those who wish to join the group. HW Chichester is 14:38 BST on Saturday so it will be leisurely start at around 14:00, exact time to be confirmed nearer the time. HW Chichester on Sunday is 14:22 BST so should be back in good time on Sunday.
It is widely acknowledged that a yacht sailing by itself is cruising, two yachts heading in the same direction are ‘racing’ and this is the ethos of our competitive cruises-races. This is the first cruise-race event of the season, and all are welcome to join us. You don’t have to be an out and out racer with the latest gear, in fact this kind of behaviour is likely to result in a fair bit of leg pulling. Our cruiser races are open to all types of craft, crew and abilities and is a great way of cruising in company whilst trying to get the most out of your boat. If you wish to join us just for a cruise the competitive part is very much optional, so cruising-only entrants are also very welcome. But if you would like to try our competitive cruising, just be in the vicinity of Chi Buoy at 14:00!
As usual, comprehensive cruising notes will be sent around beforehand complete with full details on how we conduct our ‘gentlemanly’ rolling starts. Anyone who has not been on one of our competitive cruises before and is dauted by the term ‘race’ please don’t be it is more a group of boats sailing together each trying to sail faster than each other. If you would like to ask any questions before signing up please give James a call or drop an email to racing.yachts.cyc@gmail.com .
