Yachts: Round the Island Race/Cruise via Yarmouth

This is the CYC Round the Island Race which we run the weekend after the main event and is a little bit more of a relaxed affair. The event is held over two days with a stopover in Yarmouth on Saturday night before we return to Chichester, via the south side of the Island, on Sunday.

HW Chichester is 12:37BST, which suggests an 12:00 start at Chi Buoy to make best use of the westward tide. As a change this year we are stopping over in Yarmouth rather than Lymington on day 1. This will mean the usual Yarmouth antics will take place so please bring along your extra mast lights etc. With dinner arranged in the Wheatsheaf it is promising to be a good night.

Any boat that would like to take part in the race is welcome: you do not need to be an experienced racer to take part; & cruising-only participants are very welcome. With a total of 3 bits of CYC silverware up for grabs over this weekend, entry to the race list is recommended – and it all adds to the fun.

With our stop in Yarmouth, the start the following morning will be at the far end of the Needles Chanel to get the best of the East bound tide around the south side of the island. There will be a bit of an early start but it is well worth it. Once past Bembridge we head straight to Chichester for the finish. As usual, detailed sailing instructions will be sent out before the race. Anyone who has not been on one of our competitive cruises before and is dauted by the term ‘race’ please don’t be.
