Yachts: Cowes and Back: Peter Buttery Plate Race/Cruise
The Peter Buttery Salver is the opening event of the CYC fun race calendar, and as usual it will be to Cowes on Saturday and return on Sunday. Our overnight berthing will be in Cowes Yacht Haven with, restrictions allowing, dinner ashore in the Anchor for those who wish to join the group. HW Chichester is 14:32 BST on Sat, which will make for a fairly relaxed start to the weekend. We will be starting around 13:45, exact time to be confirmed nearer the time. HW Chichester on Sunday is 15:10 BST so an early-ish start for home, to keep the tide with us. It is widely acknowledged that a yacht sailing by itself is cruising, two yachts heading in the same direction are ‘racing’ and this is the ethos of our competitive cruises-races. This is the first cruise-race event of the season, and all are welcome to join us. You don’t have to be an out and out racer with the latest gear, in fact this kind of behaviour is likely to result in a fair bit of leg pulling. Our cruiser races are open to all types of craft, crew and abilities and is a great way of cruising in company whilst trying to get the most out of your boat. If you wish to join us just for a cruise the competitive part is very much optional, so cruising-only entrants are also very welcome. But if you would like to try our competitive cruising, just be in the vicinity of Chi Buoy at 13:30! As usual, we will hold a briefing in the club (or on Zoom) the Friday before. Anyone who has not been on one of our competitive cruises before and is daunted by the term ‘race’ please don’t be. If you would like to ask any questions before signing up please give James a call or drop an email to racing.yachts.cyc@gmail.com
