Yachts: The Gunpowder and Explosions Cruise
On Saturday the cruise visits Marchwood Sailing Club at the head of Southampton Water. A HW Itchenor at 07:00 will make for an early depart for the 30nm trip. Marchwood was once a Royal Naval Armaments Depot and the largest store for gun powder in the ‘Kingdom’ with a capacity of 76,000 barrels. It is now the location of a small, owner run club where we have always had a great night together.
The cruise includes seeing the delightful Netley Abbey, cruise liner spotting at Southampton docks and being close up to the huge container ships at the container terminal. Berthing involves rafting up on walk ashore pontoons that have no shore power. A pontoon party will be held followed by dinner together in the clubhouse.
On Sunday we will move on to Gosport Marina in the morning in order that we can visit the Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower in the afternoon. The museum is housed inside Priddy’s Hard, which was also the location of a former Royal Navy armaments depot.Any arrangements for the Sunday evening will be advised closer to the time.
For those returning to Chichester on Monday 1 May an early depart is advised to make use of the 9:25 high tide at Chichester.
Please note Marchwood YC have now set a maximum number of boats for a rally to 15 and the maximum number of diners to 38.
