Easter Cruise April 18-21
Published 12:16 on 1 May 2025
After weeks of sunny, dry weather it was inevitable that it would change in time for the Easter weekend and sure enough, it became very changeable with strong winds and heavy rain forecast for Friday and Saturday. Not deterred, 18 boats were signed up for the cruise and 16 made it to Universal or Swanwick marinas on the Hamble. Unfortunately, Time Out had to return to base with a broken rudder cable and Sea Spray joined us later in the weekend.
As the rain set in during the afternoon pontoon parties were held on Rascallion for those berthed in Swanwick and in the Members Lounge at Universal, followed by an evening meal at the Old Ship.

In view of the forecasts during the week, the original plan to sail to Lymington on Saturday was revised and a second night booked on the Hamble. After a wet start it was a gloriously sunny but very windy day. A couple of boats did brave the weather and 10 people enjoyed the Hamble Circular Walk calling in for refreshments at Warsash Sailing Club on the way.

Later some of the group ate at Harpers Steakhouse and others on board.
Sunday dawned overcast for the short hop over to Cowes Yacht Haven. Most enjoyed a good sail, though the wind died in the afternoon leaving some drifting for a while. After another pontoon party, this time actually on the pontoon, we were well looked after at the Island Sailing Club and enjoyed their Easter Sunday roast.

Monday was a very different day. Very little wind provided the opportunity for some to try out their spinnakers. Others took the opportunity to relax and recover from the night before!

Thank you to Blaze Away, Brown Eyed Girl, Coco, First Light, Flyer, Good Day Sunshine, Good Time Girl, Haraka, Hermit 2, Kerry Dancer, Moana Blu, Moody Blue, Rascallion, Remiga, Sea Spray and Selene IV for a very enjoyable weekend.
