Bosham by Foot, Ferry and Bus – 28 January

The forecast was a looking good as 23 of us gathered in the CYC car park on the morning of Saturday 28th. Cloudy skies but with the promise of some sun in the forecast, and no strong winds  to cause the ferry to cancel.  The first part of the walk we followed the well trod Salterns Way to Itchenor. The harbour itself was quiet, empty mooring buoys about the only things afloat.
We made it to Itchenor in good time and the first group of 12 made their way down to the ferry for the very short ride across, it looked like a good run up would clear the narrow channel. The remainder of the group had a quick coffee break whilst waiting for the ferry to return. At this point the clouds gave way to blue sky, affording some stunning photo opportunities across the tranquil harbour. Interestingly most of us have made countless trips up and down the harbour in our boats but very few had ever been on the ferry, a new experience for many.
We all re-assembled on the other side and then followed the foreshore to Bosham with lovely views across to picturesque Bosham with its iconic Holy Trinity church tower centrepiece and The South Downs as backdrop. Our lunch venue was the Berkeley Arms where we were welcomed by the friendly team and joined by 4 others. We enjoyed our fresh and tasty lunch in the cosy pub, log fires burning. Various options for the return were available at this point but most had decided to return by car, some having left a car before the walk whilst others took advantage of spaces being offered by those who had driven straight there.
A small group of 5 walked from the pub up to the Bosham roundabout to catch a bus to Fishbourne. We had a bit of a wait, eventually true to form, 2 buses turned up together.  We hopped off at Fishbourne and then walked back to CYC alongside the Fishbourne channel, the loop around the eastern part of the harbour was complete.
Thanks to all participants for your good company along the way.
