Yacht Section AGM & Photo Competition 2021

Roughly 50 people turned up on Friday 2nd November for our Second Friday Social, featuring the AGM and Photo Competition. The shortlisted competition photos were displayed in the room and attendees were encouraged to stick a ‘dot’ on their favourite, but no more than a single dot per ‘voter’.

The shortlist for the Photo Competition

Just before the time for the scheduled AGM, the food started to arrive, so we had to decide whether to proceed or delay. As there were a few people who were not staying for supper, we decided to ‘crack-on’ with the essential AGM business.

As the Committee’s Annual Report had been on the website for a week, and there were some paper copies at the meeting, the only formal business was the confirmation of our Committee Chair and of the new committee:

Chair and Rear Commodore Yachts:

John Lake

Continuing Members:

Kevin Brown – as Secretary

Jan Cleghorn – as New Members Sec

Nick Cole – takes over as Social Sec

James Connell – as Race Sec

Anita Hedges – as Media Sec

Carole Middleton – as Cruising Sec

Tim Walker – as Technical & Training Sec

New Nomination:

Simon Fraser – initially as a General Member

Retiring:

Helen Jupp was thanked for her wonderful support of the Yacht Committee and presented with a bouquet.

All the above was accomplished in less than 10 minutes!

By the time our puddings had arrived, we had a tie for first place in the Photo Competition, so the people who had not yet voted were encouraged to add their ‘dots’…

That made all the difference and we were able to present the prizes to the top three, as follows:

First: David Roberts

Second: Jerry Quinton

Third: Peter Collins

I get the impression that it turned out to be a very enjoyable – and sociable – evening!  It was definitely a painless and efficient way to do our AGM. In a straw poll at the end of the evening, even the Upper Deck venue and pre-ordering of meals was favoured by most of the people there.

And finally, returning to the more serious business of administering the Yacht Section. A copy of the Annual Report is posted on the CYC website. To find it, log in to the site, select Yachts, then Yacht’s Documents and scroll down to Committee Papers.  If you have any questions on the Annual Report, or indeed on anything to do with the Yacht Section, then email them to yachts@cyc.co.uk and the committee will ensure you get a reply.
