Handicap

Welcome to the Handicap Class at Chichester Yacht Club

The CYC Dinghy Section offers a comprehensive racing programme throughout the year, organised by the Dinghy and Race Committees. During the summer season there is racing each weekend and in the evenings as tides allow.

With over a hundred dinghy classed in the UK to choose from most sailing clubs will have a large fleet in their general handicap fleet. CYC is no different.

At CYC we have an excellent cross section of dinghies racing every weekend in the Spring and Summer ranging from the RS300, RS 600 to the classic GP14 and Finn class.

During the year we race a number of series which are general handicap based such as the First Breath series, Lady Todd services, Evening Tankard, Sunset Evening Series, Autumn Series and the Birdham Barrel. Last year we ran a number of series that were split into 3 handicap classes, each with a separate start.

We endeavour to give good courses and when possible use a committee boat as the start line.

Asymmetric/Fast Fleet – 2000, Int.Moth, RS300, RS200, RS400, RS500, 29er
Classic Hiking Fleet – Solo, Laser, Finn, GP14, Albacore, RSVaro, Lark
Slow Fleet – Feva, Topper, Optimist, Laser Pico, Mirror

The other major handicap series we run is the Frozen Toe Winter Series (up to Christmas) and then the Snowflake Series from January to March. Both series will normally have 2 races per day (on the Sunday), every 2 weeks. Both series attract a large entry of boats with many current and ex-championship sailors attending.

The CYC Dinghy section give a warm welcome to any mono hull dinghy up to 6.06m.
